Moscow Day 1

Russia.

I remember images of
Scary Russian soldiers
Marching
Clunk, Clunk, Clunk
Horrible sounds threatening "THE ATOMIC BOMB" in their foot steps
and stories of  hoodlums
racing up in dark sedans, with Uzis
to kidnap us
So I left all of my jewelry at home
in the safe.

I now understand the essence of propaganda.

Moscow is the epitome of civilized

A woman with a ponytail biking, alone, along the river, at midnight
Our guide deriding Putin and Yeltsin within earshot (literally) of the KGB
A Jewish museum - the finest, most sophisticated institution I've yet to visit with two smiling guards (There is more security at the JUF office in Chicago)

Big green parks; small French boutiques

Impressionist Russian artists I've never heard of - why not? - that rival Monet

Not to mention caviar on the breakfast buffet and vodka for happy hour

Why did we want to go to Russia?

Foolish not to have come before....

Photo captions

A couple of shots in the Jewish temple
The KGB headquarters
The pic of Brent by the funky tree - the tree is full of locks that newlyweds place on many such trees along a bridge to sanctify the permancy of their wedding vows and the bench where we are seated is where the newlyweds go for their first kiss

Tomorrow is Red Square
